1. Power and control: Sexual abuse is often driven by a need for power and control over another person. The abuser may use sexual acts as a means to exert their dominance and gain power over the victim.
2. Childhood experiences: People who have experienced abuse, neglect, or other forms of trauma during childhood may be more likely to engage in sexual abuse later in life. This can be due to a lack of healthy coping mechanisms or the normalization of abusive behavior.
3. Mental health issues: Some individuals who engage in sexual abuse may have mental health issues such as personality disorders, depression, or anxiety. These issues can contribute to a lack of impulse control or an inability to empathize with others.
4. Substance abuse: Drug or alcohol abuse can impair judgment and increase the likelihood of engaging in abusive behavior.
5. Social and cultural factors: Societal norms and cultural attitudes towards sex and power can contribute to the prevalence of sexual abuse. For example, a culture that promotes male dominance or victim blaming can enable abusive behavior.

It is important to note that none of these factors excuse or justify sexual abuse. Everyone has a responsibility to respect the autonomy and bodily integrity of others, and engaging in sexual abuse is a violation of that responsibility.

Everything we do is based on agreements we have made – agreements with ourselves, with other people, with God, with Life. But the most important agreements are the ones we make with ourselves. In these agreements we tell ourselves who we are, how to behave, what is possible, what is impossible. One single agreement is not such a problem, but we have many agreements that come from fear, deplete our energy and diminish our self-worth.

No matter what the situation may be, the right course of action is always compassion and love.

If in the midst of negativity you are able to realize “At this moment I am creating suffering for myself” it will be enough to raise you above the limitations of conditioned egoic states and reactions. It will open up infinite possibilities which come to you when there is awareness – other vastly more intelligent ways of dealing with any situation. You will be free to let go of your unhappiness the moment you recognize it as unintelligent.

When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself.

Stop looking outside for scraps of pleasure or fulfillment, for validation, security, or love – you have a treasure within that is infinitely greater than anything the world can offer.

Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

As my sufferings mounted I soon realized that there were two ways in which I could respond to my situation — either to react with bitterness or seek to transform the suffering into a creative force. I decided to follow the latter course.

Only to the degree that we’ve gotten to know our personal pain, only to the degree that we’ve related with pain at all, will we be fearless enough, brave enough, enough of a warrior to be willing to feel the pain of others . . . we will discover that their pain and our own pain is no different.

You can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.

A Native American wisdom story tells of an old Cherokee who is teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside of you – and inside of every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?” The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”
